Sportcraft Treadmills
Sportcraft Ltd. was founded in 1926 by Walter Holdstein. The company produced indoor and outdoor games such as table tennis and tetherball. To date this remains its core business. It specializes in producing cheap products for the mass-market. All its products are sold through companies like K-Mart, Wal Mart, and Target, all of which have named it a vendor or supplier of the year.
The company was late in seeing the huge market growth in home exercise equipment and it wasn't until 2001 that Sportcraft designed, produced and shipped its first motorized treadmills to Wal-mart. However, trying to produce a cheap treadmill, that massed shipped isn't easy. There has been a series of recalls of Sportcraft treadmills. The third recall - yes, the third - was in the Spring of 2006. These recalls have severely dented this company's reputation as a supplier of treadmills.
But the Sportcraft treadmill does have some plus points. The treadmills from Sportcraft are cheap and offer an appealing set of features like 10% inclines, decent treadbelt length, relatively large motor (for its price) and general design appearance.
However, there is no getting away from the fact that Sportcraft treadmills have been recalled 3 times since being launched in 2001. As if to underline, how poorly manufactured this equipment is, Sportcraft treadmills come with only a 10 year warranty for the frame, 1 year for the motor, 1 year for all parts, and 90 days for labor service.
Are there are good reviews of Sportcraft treadmills. In a word: no.
In summary I leave you with what Treadmill Doctor had to say about Sportcraft Treadmills: 'We expect them to continue mass-marketing game tables and the like but we believe they should stay away from making treadmills.'
